Live Like a Local: Five Things to Enjoy in Georgetown, TXIf you travel to Georgetown, Texas for a day, there are many activities you can do to blend in with the locals. Whether you’re taking a trip from Austin or elsewhere, you’ll make yourself feel at home. Review this list of things you can do in Georgetown:  

Go to Blue Hole 

Blue Hole is a picturesque lagoon on the San Gabriel River. You need to enter Blue Hole Park to access the lagoon. It’s an ideal place to take a dive during hot summer days, but park rules warn that you would be entering the water at your own risk as there is no lifeguard on the park’s premises. The park stays open until 10 p.m so you can spend the whole day there to take in the scenery. There are two free parking areas.  

Venture to Inner Space Caverns 

Go to Inner Space Caverns to look at one of the most maintained caves in Texas. The Texas Highway Department found these caves in 1963 and they gave access to the public in 1966. Within these caves, you can explore prehistoric formations and animal bones. The temperature-controlled caves remain a stable 72 degrees year-round and it’s not susceptible to flooding. Bring a raincoat if you plan to visit the caves on a rainy day.  

Drink Craft Beers at Mesquite Creek Outfitters 

If you drink craft beer, then Mesquite Creek is the perfect location to have a couple of brews. They have a rotating beer menu, featuring beers across the state of Texas. If you’re from outside of Texas, you’ll get exposure to many beers drunk by Austinites. For example, the thirsty goat amber ale from Thirsty Planet Brewing Company is a medium-bodied beer with a malty taste and a light bitterness.  

Another beer they serve is Fresh Kicks IPA from Real Ale Brewing Company in Blanco, Texas. The beer has a ripe tropical fruit taste that mimics Hazy IPAs from the Northeast. Check out their wine list for assorted reds and whites that match your taste buds. You could partake in prosecco, rose, and wine cocktails as well.  

Attend the Georgetown Rodeo in June 

Attend the rodeo June to witness the official sport of Texas. You’ll see the skills of cowboys and cowgirls on display as they perform in multiple events with livestock and horses. Some events you might see comprise of tie-down roping, team roping, steer wrestling, and bull riding. You need to buy your tickets early so you don’t miss out on this unique experience. 

Eat Brunch at Gumbo’s 

Gumbo’s is a Cajun and Creole restaurant where you can enjoy the bar area and live music performances from local bands. This vibrant restaurant has a substantial number of options on its brunch menu. Gumbo’s breakfast is a menu item that comes with a sliced steak tenderloin covered with pepper jack cheese, and it’s served with potato hash, two over-easy eggs, avocado slices, and sriracha and tortilla strips. Wash it down with bottomless mimosas, a Bloody Mary, or a screwdriver from the bar, to complete your brunch experience.
