Accidents happen all the time, and they’re an unfortunate part of the car ownership experience. Dealing with the aftermath of an accident can be daunting, especially if you’ve never dealt with one before.
If you ever find yourself in a serious crash or collision, check out this brief guide from our Ford service center about what to do.
1. Check for Injuries
Your first step after a collision is to check yourself and any passengers for injuries. Even the most minor fender benders can leave you or your passengers seriously injured, so it’s important to check everyone and decide whether medical assistance is required.
2. Move to a Safe Location
After checking for injuries, move to a safe location that is out of the way of traffic. If your vehicle is unable to move, leave it where it is and stand out of the way of passing vehicles. It is recommended to call the police to assist in documenting and assisting in the aftermath of the accident.
3. Document the Damage
After everyone has been accounted for, it’s time to start documenting your accident. Talk to the driver of the other vehicle and exchange as much information as possible. For most insurance claims, the following information is required:
- Full name and contact information
- License plate and drivers license numbers
- Insurance information (companies and policy numbers)
- Witness names and contact information
It also helps to take photos and videos to document the state of both vehicles after the accident. Many insurance companies require photo documentation, so this step must not be skipped.
Before filing a claim, make sure to contact roadside assistance to collect your vehicle. You can always reach out to our service center at Mac Haik Ford Lincoln to relocate your vehicle to the nearest location within 35 miles of our dealership. From there, our Ford dealers will work with your insurance company to get you back on the road as soon as possible!
