2020 Ford Ranger in Georgetown, TX
The Ranger is Ford's latest addition to their pickup truck lineup. The 2020 model is its second year in production after making a reappearance in 2019, and it has just a few changes. Along with some new paint colors, the 2020 Ranger now offers an FX2 package and some minor shifts in the feature availability.
Trim Levels
The XL is the entry-level trim and comes with 16-inch steel wheels and automatic headlights. The XLT adds 17-inch wheels, and it comes with fog lights and upgraded trim elements. This model also has rear privacy glass and the option to add a sport appearance package. The Lariat is the top-level Ranger. It has 18-inch alloy wheels and comes with LED headlights. All Rangers now offer the option for the FX4 Off-Road Package. This adds all-terrain tires, off-road shocks, and a frame-mounted steel bash plate.
Engine
All the Ranger models get the same 2.3-liter turbo four-cylinder engine. It generates 270 horsepower, gets 310 pound-feet of torque, and works with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive comes standard with the option for a four-wheel-drive system with 4Hi and 4Lo available as an option. The Lariat adds a 10-speaker Bang & Olufsen stereo system, and if you add the Technology package, it comes with integrated navigation.
Performance
The transmission in the Ranger delivers smooth and swift shifting. The terrain management system that Ford makes available changes up the engine response and shifting to make the most of the engine's performance. Drivers can choose from normal, grass/gravel/snow, sand, and mud/ruts. The responsive steering system in the Ranger makes it feel like you are in a midsize SUV instead of a pickup truck.
Interior
Inside, the Ranger can fit either four or five passengers. The XL starts with cloth upholstery. The XLT adds dual-zone automatic climate control, and it has a leather-wrapped steering wheel. It also adds the option for a package with heated front seats with an eight-way power-adjustment feature. The Lariat comes standard with the XLT's options and adds leather upholstery. The XL offers the option for a color display screen with Bluetooth and 4G LTE Wi-Fi, and this comes standard in the XLT. You can also get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto if you bump up from the base along with satellite radio, the SYNC 3 infotainment system, extra USB ports, and voice controls.
Safety Features
Standard safety features in the Ranger start with a backup camera, forward collision warning, and automatic braking. The Co-PIlot360 group of advanced safety systems is an available option. It adds pedestrian detection to the forward-collision warning system, and it also adds a blind-spot monitoring system, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic high beams. This package also adds a trailer tow monitoring system. Adaptive cruise control is available for the Lariat as part of the Technology package.
The available Tow Optimized Blind Spot Monitoring system extends the reach of the camera to include what you need to tow behind the truck, and it even has a memory that can hold up to three different trailer profiles.
